Introduction

Recently there has been a fairly awesome discovery in the world of custom songs, 'PikminGuts' found out how to import and play custom songs on Rock Band 3 just as if they were DLC, with an Un-Modded XBox! The process is a bit complicated, but fairly easy compared to the .RBA customs that I first pioneered. All it takes is a rock band DLC file or a .RBA file.

Converting RBA to RB3 DLC

The first thing we will need is a program that will take either a .DLC(.LIVE) or a .RBA file and turn it into a .CON file. The .CON file is the file that we will put in the save folder for Rock Band 3, which will in-turn give us legitimate Rock Band customs. Once you open the program, there will two sections. One section for the DLC files, and one section for the RBA files. We only need the second, RBA section. All you need to do is hit browse and find the .RBA file you'd like to convert to the final RB3 DLC file. Once you hit go, you will be greeted with a message stating that the procedure has succeeded.

Your file will be automatically created inside the same windows folder that the RB->CON program was in. Congratulations, the easy part is now done.

Now we need to import your newly created CON file into Rock Band. This is done through a program called Modio, you might've heard about it. Before we get into Modio, you need to grab a USB flash drive and plug it into your xbox. Make sure that it is formatted for the XBox and go to your Memory tap in the system settings. Navigate to wherever your RB3 save file is. (99% of the time, you will find it on your primary XBox hard drive.) Find the "folder" where Rock Band 3 is, and find the 'Rock Band 3 Song Cache.' This file is usually 1-3 megabytes, depending on how big your DLC library is. Hit A on it and copy it to your XBox formatted USB flash drive.

Wait for it to finish and plug the flash drive into your computer. Next, open Modio and hit "Explore Device." A file explorer looking type window will pop up, hit file->Open/Close drive. Navigate to the Rock Band 3 song cache folder you saved, it should say "songcache." You know you're in the right folder when you see this file. Take that CON file, and drag/drop it into the modio window right under song cache. Modio will inject your USB drive with the CON file. Plug the USB drive back into your XBox, and simply copy the con file back over to your hard drive. Congrats man, you now have your own custom songs in your Rock Band 3 song library. Note, use this responsibly. It is possible to pirate DLC this way, but don't do it. Please. Harmonix works hard to make you guys DLC, don't ruin it. Use this for Custom songs only, and don't distribute the CON files. They contain audio and can be compared to music piracy quite easily.

Have fun.

Making .DLC files

Coming soon. If you'd like to create your own customs, please make a .RBA file using other tutorials, and then come back to this tutorial.
